Alice Palmer's house is distinctively her own. Filled with a harmonious balance of antique finds, high street steals and her own creations, she has created a stylish home that's just right for family life.
Whilst you'll be hard pressed to find a cushion or a lampshade that isn't from her own brand, Alice Palmer & Co, she's a champion of small businesses, having filled her house with prints and fabrics from other makers like herself. In between the one-of-a-kinds and handmade pieces, Alice has a keen eye for placing furnishings from some of the high street's best furniture shops.
But where to look? Luckily for us, Alice has opened up her sourcebook and pointed us in the right direction.
In the kitchen
Alice has filled her colourful treasure trove of a kitchen with an eclectic mix of antiques and high street furnishings. The bespoke sofa, which is upholstered in an Ian Mankin fabric, sits underneath two Pooky pendant lights and a set of eight botanical prints from Oka. Underfoot, a Berber rug from Marrakech sections off the living space from the dining area. The kitchen cabinets are painted in a delicate shade of green from Farrow & Ball.
At the desk
In this charming corner of her open plan space, Alice has made an antique desk the focal point. It acts as the perfect foil to her sleeker cooking area, where a smart marble-topped kitchen island sits just a few metres away. A striped stool by Oka adds a pop of colour, whilst a vase that resembles one of Alice's own lamp bases displays some foliage.
In the living room
By throwing away the rulebook on colour, Alice has achieved a playful space that's as welcoming as it is striking. Above the sofa, a large framed tapestry adds texture to the soft yellow walls. Though not pictured here, the windows are dressed in a striped material from The Cloth Shop.
In the children's room
In the childrens' bedroom, bold colour and clashing patterns reign supreme. Many of Alice's products have found homes here, with striped cushions, lampshades and bed valances all from her shop. Similar animal heads, in a variety of species, can be purchased from Bohemia Design. Out of shot, a piece by Kate Black is framed in a bobbin frame by Etalage.
In Alice's bedroom
At the very top of the house, in an extension designed by Alice herself, is the master suite. A complex warren of bathroom, dressing room and bedroom, the focal points here are the enormous, panoramic windows. Decorated in a softer, more muted palette than the rest of the house, the bedroom is dressed in pale pinks and blues, with a handmade canopy and an inlaid chest of drawers adding visual interest.
