This high street brand's bedding is really good right now

Staple of the British high street, Marks and Spencer's bedding is perfect for a spring overhaul

Marks and Spencer might be best known for their Percy Pigs, ‘Dine In’ meals and Colin the Caterpillar cakes, but it's their womenswear and homeware that's piqued our interest in recent seasons. With buyers moving over from top positions at The White Company and Topshop, there's little surprise that their offering has garnered such a cult following. Top of our wishlist is their bedding, and the range spans from frilly, embroidered sets to crisp, clean-lined linens. We've selected our eight favourite sets below.

Feminine frills

Tom Griffiths

In Kate Cox's Georgian flat in Bristol, frilly bedding is employed to charming effect. By pairing it with smart stripes and layered textures, the bed looks welcoming, not fussy. Marks & Spencer's ‘French Ruffle’ set can be used to achieve a similar look, as can the ‘Broderie Anglaise’ set.

Simple stripes

Paul Massey

Take inspiration from Lisa Mehydene, founder of online homeware platform edit58, whose bedroom features charming striped bedding. The pillowcases are tied with bows and the stripes provide a contrast to the pretty florals that adorn the floor, headboard and quilt. For a similar effect, we'd look to Marks and Spencer's ‘Exquisite Earth Check Bedding Set’ which, though checked, has similar ribbon ties. Alternatively, the ‘Striped Bedding’ set is a charming choice.

Crisp linens

This elegant London flat has a glorious terrace overlooking Kensington Gardens. Inside it has a sophisticated ease. In the bedroom this feel can be replicated by keeping the bed simple. A flat sheet in linen, either neutral or colourful, has elegant impact when draped over the whole bed and paired with simple throw cushions in a matching hue. For maximum effect, we recommend sizing up by one or two sizes (e.g. if you have a double, buy the flat sheet in a king size) so you get that lovely, luxurious drape.
